So What Exactly is GDV?

 

If you are not in the business of geospatial data visualization, the term may sound like an abstract concept you learned in college. In reality, you are already familiar with the technology: you see GDV images whenever you watch TV weather reports or when you or your kids play new, high-end video games. GDV is nothing more than a two- or three-dimensional, static or animated image of any location, whether in space, on the ground, or beneath the sea. GDV simulation makes use of both time and space by simulating 3D scenarios in real or simulated time for analysis or decision support.

 

One of the few companies that produce whole-earth GDV solutions is the Springfield Virginia-based Autometric. It has delivered supieror remote snesing and visual simulation solutions for over forty years to select federal agencies for a variety of military, intelligence, and civilian applications. Autometric's EDGE software products have lead the way for US government agencies to capture, process, analyze, and manage air, space, and land-based resources in a whole-earth context.
